David six-hitting spree powers Bengaluru

April 06, 2026

Tim David belted eight sixes in a blistering 70 not out to fire Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their second win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season, hammering Chennai Super Kings by 43 runs on Sunday. David's 25-ball blitz steered defending champions Bengaluru to 250-3, the highest total in this season's tournament, after the hosts were put in to bat first at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Bengaluru bowled Chennai out for 207 in 19.4 overs to condemn the five-time IPL winners to a third defeat in as many matches. Seam bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar took three wickets for Bengaluru. Jacob Duffy, Abhinandan Singh and Krunal Pandya claimed two each. But Australia's David ruled with his power hitting and one of his sixes off England's Jamie Overton went over the roof of the stadium. "It doesn't always happen that way," said player of the match David. "You know, skipper Rajat (Patidar) was absolutely smoking and I was taking balls off him. So to be able to get us to a score and obviously put a lot of pressure on the opposition, it was super fun." Bengaluru top the 10-team IPL table with a better run-rate than Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. All four sides have won their opening two matches. Bengaluru, who won their first IPL title in 18 attempts last year, started strong after Virat Kohli hit an 18-ball 28, and the rest of the batting kept up the pace and then accelerated. Kohli's fellow opener Phil Salt made 46 and Devdutt Padikkal reached 50 before Patidar, who finished unbeaten on 48, and David tore into the Chennai attack. David launched a brutal assault at the back end of the Bengaluru innings and whacked Overton for four sixes and a four in a 30-run 19th over. David and Patidar put on 99 runs in 36 balls as Bengaluru plundered 97 runs from the final five overs. Chennai lost three early wickets, including skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad for seven, to immediately fall behind in the chase. Sarfaraz Khan's 25-ball 50 and good knocks from Prashant Veer (43)...

Israeli rescuers search for missing people after buidling hit by Iran missile

April 06, 2026

Israeli firefighters were searching for three missing people in the rubble of a residential building in the northern city of Haifa after it was struck by an Iranian missile Sunday. The direct hit on a seven-storey building tore through parts of the structure, injuring four people, the military and rescue services said. The strike took place minutes after the military warned it had detected a new round of missiles fired from Iran at around 1500 GMT. The building was hit by a "direct impact of a missile", a military spokesperson told AFP, confirming the missile was fired from Iran. Israel's emergency service, Magen David Adom, said four people were wounded when the building sustained a direct hit. Israel's Fire and Rescue Services said firefighters were searching for three missing people "at the scene of a building that has partially collapsed". AFP footage showed rescuers using flashlights to search through the building's rubble and scattered concrete blocks. The injured included an 82-year-old man, MDA said, adding that he was in a "serious condition". A hospital later said he was stable. He was "wounded by a heavy object and the blast", the MDA said, adding that the other three suffered shrapnel and blast injuries. The three injured included a 10-month old baby who suffered a head injury, MDA said. Dozens of Israeli security and members of rescue forces were deployed at the site of the strike, an AFP correspondent reported. Images and footage published by MDA show smoke rising from the remains of a flattened building in a densely populated area, and stretchers laid on the road by rescuers for casualties. MDA paramedic Shevach Rothenshtrych quoted residents saying that there were casualties trapped under the rubble on the lower floors, and the 82-year-old was rescued after first responders "managed to move large pieces of concrete with our hands". His colleague Tal Shustak said that when emergency calls were received, "we were dispatched in large forces...

Govt to implement July Charter in line with constitution: Home minister

April 06, 2026

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday said the government will implement the July National Charter in line with the constitution, stressing that the constitution remains the sole basis for upholding the people's aspirations. "Everything, including the formation of the government, parliament and lawmakers, has taken place in accordance with the constitution. So it can't be ignored in the name of implementing the July National Charter," he said. The minister made the remarks while participating in a discussion on an adjournment motion in the Jatiya Sangsad, with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed in the chair. The motion was scheduled for discussion to deliberate on the implementation process of the July National Charter. The adjournment motion was earlier brought on 1 April by ruling party lawmaker from Noakhali-2 Zainul Abdin Farroque. Terming the July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Order, 2025 as "legislative fraud" and "colorable legislation," the home minister said that although all 33 political parties had ratified the charter, the order did not reflect all agreed points. Speaking on behalf of the leader of the house, he said there is no need to rewrite the constitution, adding that the people's mandate to implement the charter can be realised through constitutional amendments. Describing the July National Charter 2025 as a historic document reflecting public aspirations, he urged the house to form a special committee comprising representatives from all political parties to recommend necessary constitutional amendments. Referring to the issue of restoring the Fifth Amendment, he questioned the opposition's stance, noting that the amendment -- introduced during the rule of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman -- was later declared void. Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman also spoke during the discussion, urging all sides not to politicise the charter. He said the document itself provides clear guidelines...

March 24, 2025

Maruf Billah:  Former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Narsingdi District Detective Branch (DB), Mohammad Kamruzzaman, has started spreading false accusations against Police Superintendent (SP) Mohammad Abdul Hannan. This spread of false and fabricated claims on social media has sparked strong reactions across the district. People from all walks of life, including ordinary citizens, have strongly condemned this smear campaign. Narsingdi Police Superintendent Mohammad Abdul Hannan stated that former DB OC Mohammad Kamruzzaman and Court Inspector Khandakar Zakir Hossain were accused of secretly selling 96 kg of marijuana that was kept in the police warehouse. The allegation was reported by Sub-Inspector Saminur Rahman, who was in charge of the warehouse, to the higher authorities. Upon this, the matter was brought to the attention of the police, and on the instructions of the DIG of the Dhaka Range, the two police officers were recalled to the Narsingdi Police Lines, and an investigation committee was formed under the leadership of Additional Police Superintendent Mohammad Kalimullah. In the face of the investigation, former DB OC Kamruzzaman began spreading false, baseless, and fabricated allegations against the Police Superintendent on social media, which tarnished the reputation of the Narsingdi District Police. Analysts suggest that Kamruzzamans’ defamatory actions were an attempt to protect himself from the marijuana scandal. His despicable actions are considered punishable under departmental rules. After August 5th, the law and order situation in Narsingdi began to deteriorate, with an increase in drug-related crimes, weapon-related incidents, and theft. At that time, as part of the Bangladesh Police's regular transfers, the brilliant, courageous, and proven Police Superintendent Mohammad Abdul Hannan was appointed to Narsingdi. Under his leadership, the Narsingdi District Police declared war on drugs, and through successive successful operations, the district...
